World Community Service (WCS) has been described as the “quiet revolution of hope”. A WCS project is born when a Rotary club in one country reaches out to a Rotary club in another country and they jointly undertake an activity to help those in need.

WCS reflects the heart of Rotary: using service to advance international understanding, goodwill and peace.

Each Rotary club in D5100 is in a region, and there is a WCS regional liason [click for list] that connects the Clubs to each other and the WCS Committee. This liaison is charged with the responsibility to meet with club WCS committees (or Presidents to start one), assist them in WCS activity, and inspire them to become involved where none yet exists.

As a group of clubs, Committee and District, we have set these Goals for our D5100 clubs:

  1. Educate and promote WCS in clubs throughout the District
    1. Updated contact Roster for every Club
    2. Be a resource to clubs about WCS, in all aspects
    3. Clubs are encouraged to have 2-3 speakers on WCS per year (the norm in our District)
  2. Achieve 100% participation by clubs in WCS project by 6/30/09
    1. Promote participation through regular contact with WCS Region Liaisons and AGs
      1. “Participate” means initiate a WCS project, provide at least $500 in funds, plus travel for hands-on or WCS scouting for projects
    2. Regional meetings among clubs each month, or at least quarterly
    3. Present examples of successful programs at District meetings and among clubs
    4. At least one guest speaker re WCS each year; especially nonparticipating clubs
    5. By 2012 all Club WCS chairs will have taken and passed the District Essential Rotary Knowledge (ERK) modules on WCS
    6. Encourage club participation on larger projects (effective, better use of Rotarian time/energy, less staff-intensive at TRF, more “bang for buck”, etc.)
    7. Conduct at least three educational workshop(s) on Matching Grants each Rotary year, at various locations in the District
  3. Promote club participation in Project Fairs, for projects in developing countries, and in the Partners in Service Project Fair
  4. Promote attendance in District events which have WCS components

Wanna great speaker for your Club meeting?  District 5100 has a List of Speakers for WCS topics, part of a larger Speakers Bureau within D5100.
